Sullivan Peace & Justice came into being in the fall of 2002 when it appeared the US was about to invade Iraq and remove Saddam Hussein from power with military force. Like millions of people around the world, we began with public demonstrations of our opposition to a military solution, organizing regular vigils in Monticello and Liberty, NY and mobilizing groups of people to join in mass demonstrations against the policy of war.
STOP THE WAR!

Our commitment to peace and non-violent action continues, and over time we have grown into a full fledge organization. Because we understand that there can be no peace without justice, we have undertaken numerous projects to advance the cause of peace and social and economic justice in Sullivan County.

We are organized into autonomous committees, each of which is focused on one aspect or another of our search for peace and justice. In addition to vigils and committee meetings, the general membership meets once a month, and we endeavor to have at least one monthly event that reaches out to the community and advances our agenda through education, recreation and action.

We reinforce our relationships and share ideas and information through the following email listserv: http:groups.yahoo.com/group/sullivancountypeace

General Membership Meetings are held the 1st Saturday of each month (except for holiday weekends) at 1:30pm at the Liberty Free Theatre, 109 So. Main Street, Liberty, NY 12754
